The Mage and Cernunos . . . Fellow travelers in the path, converged to a sacred union

Metallic Gel Pen on Illustration Board
:iconkillgtn:
hi, i know it's a bit late for a critique, but i'd like to comment this, and ask some details of your work (which i find really awsome!), and i think your work would just deserve more than a simple "nice! i like it". Even if i'm not an artist, i kinda have no knowlege on art, just a few on cernunos, and that's really not impressiv.. but if you want my thought and questions, here they are =).
first of all, i'd like to appologize for my english, that might often contain many mistakes.

As i said, i find your work really interesting. I don't really know the metalic gel pen, but when i see the result, it's just amasing. You have many many symboles, the triangles, sometime crossing each other to form a star (or is it something else?), the circles, crossing each other too, and the way of drawing remind me an ancient greek or roman technique... with the details we use to see now a day. The mixt of the two give an interesting result.
The man, (the mage? or maybe just his body) seems quite skinless. You drawn all his muscles, and with that way of drawing, with the black base, give a lot of relief to it, so deep than we are quite disturbed, and think he has no skin. His multiple arms, each in a different praying position. His I-don't-know-what jewell hiding his sex, looks like the one on his head, and those on the second man (this man spirit?) has on his hand. exept his necklace, he's naked.

Cernunos behind him. First, i like the way you see him. His simple, but some of his symboles are missing, the tocq and the snake... why? i saw them in other of your drawing (i don't like this word, but this is the only one i know for that kind of picture).
In your description, i feel cernunos not as a great king, but on the contrary, really close from mankind, far from any idea i could have had from my precedent recherches, (which i remind you, are not that impressive, all i could have find was on the internet, and to take the part of true on the web is not that easy). Or is he just leading the mage to find his way...

An other question, about the highest man. Richelly dressed, elevated above men, (above gods?) what exactly does he represent?

Then, the path, i use the word from your description, nicely represented by the lignes, (some over the framework, that we cannot see, that we cannot represent?), all is really great. (yeah, this is not really a conclusion, i just don't have time anymore, so it will stay like it, unfinished. but i'd like to have your point on cernunos, on celtic ancient religion, and other culture ( i thought i read on an older conversation you travelled and study a lot... you really seems a deep knowlege well!)

Greetings my friend

My gratitude for the lengthy 'critique' of my work. You need not apologize for your English, since I understood everything your wished to convey. Hence we are truly communicating in heart, while using a language that is not our native tongue.

First, I wish to share that the artwork is about my spiritual evolution, with Cernunos as one of my guides. The lowest figure is my person now, as I have been called many things, from a shaman to a mage to a visionary. Whatever their descriptions, I merely see myself as a man in a spiritual journey (but I still had to use the word "mage" as a titling means).

I am also very exposed to many faiths and ancient religions, such studies I have endeavored since I was a child and now continue to explore professor in history and art in a university in my country. Thus, my works reflect that multi-cultural view of the world.

The sacred flames on the lower man are symbolical of the chakras (with 3 representing all 7), and the necklace is an amulet that I used to wear during my many travels among the tribes in my country.

I didn't have to place all the symbols of Cernunos, as I have to just draw him as I know him.

Here he is one of my guides to reach my higher evolution, which is the 'mage' on top dresses in finery. The older mage is a symbol of who I am to be. In other words, I may be quite old but I am not that old :)

The geometrical figures in the background are sacred sigils which I simplified to describe my path in abstract form. I can actually see these sacred geometries in my conscious moments as well as in my sleep

I hope that my explanation would suffice to you

Salamat (thanks) at samuli (and until then),

Lakan
