Mula sa Panday ng Bud
From the Blacksmith of the Mountains

Pen & Ink study for a Painting

To the Tausug warriors of the Southern Philippines, their weapons are very much a part of their person. Here in this drawing a featured several swords:

The Barong, a short sturdy willow-leaf shaped sword

The Kris / Keris, the wavy bladed sword used in close
combat and water duels

The Kampilan, the long sword with a crocodile motiff

The Lantak, the solid brass-cast cannon

In the background is the pis (woven head cloth) with spells of protection written on it.

The Kampilan design really makes me want to get a sword crafted like that. Looking through your inkings I've also become fond of your sun designs. Paradoxically it gives off as sense of chaotic symetry. I have questions about the cloth but don't want to ask anything that might sound foolish. Great work on this piece!

Do take time to ask about the textiles, there is no true foolish question if you really want to know more (more often what people think is the 'dumb' question is actually the most relevant one)

Thanks
